Much of police work is visible to the community but sometimes important work goes on behind the scene. This can often involve significant amount of time, energy and resources as well as requiring highly specialist officers. The fight against drugs is an on going battle and whilst it is difficult to tackle the whole issue it is important to disrupt markets and stop certain people from embedding their activities in our community.

For some while work has been going on which has led to some significant results. Recently four men appeared at Bristol Crown Court for supplying drugs. These men were active drug dealers in our community and when caught were found in possession of 1kg of Heroin worth £49,161. They were running a sophisticated drug business leading to the distribution of drugs in Bristol and Bath. They were convicted and sent to prison. Richard Wakeling received a sentence of 6 years, Robert Wakeling 2 years, Darren Piercy 3 years and David James 7½ years. This was an excellent result.

On the 22nd January a further pro-active police operation led to a 58 year old man being arrested in Bath City Centre. He was found to be in possession of 30 wraps of cocaine and £600 cash. Simultaneously his house was raided, where 1.1kg of cocaine, 6oz Heroin and 1kg cannabis were discovered. In total a street value of £125,000 worth of drugs were seized. This man has been charged and four other men are on police bail. A further raid this week has led to another substantial amount of drugs being seized.

Often young people are being sold these drugs and in particular university students were being targeted, it is important to do as much as possible to rid our community of these people and you can be assured that we are doing everything in our power to catch and convict them.

With best wishes
Gary Davies
Chief Superintendent
B&NES District Commander
